A whimsical look at Saratoga horse artwork and sports memorabelia.
Original completed in acrylics with some airbrush work. This humorous cartoon print takes a look at a photo finish from a different angle--a much different angle. Saddlecloths are left without names so that the artist can add your favorite names.
I knew I had a humorous idea as this concept developed in my mind. Instead of all the horses lined up across, I would have them stacked up. As with every picture, you want to get the most mileage out of that one painting. You attempt to create your art at the best, precise moment. Similar to a photographer who snaps his picture at the precise moment to capture peak happenings. After working many sketches, the layout that you see was accepted. Some jockeys are along for the ride (longshots), some straining (favorites), and some horses enjoying being carried instead of carrying (definitely longshots). And at the bottom, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, is the determined jockey (2 to 1 favorite). This is a very vibrant, colorful, whimsical print. With the airbrushing in the background, no matting is needed.
